Here is what happens under Red Light
Our skin is the first organ that any light waves meet when encountering our body. It protects us as well as utilizes light waves for our benefit. Such as how our skin takes in the UV from the sun to help our body replenish our stores of vitamin D.
What our skin does when Red Light waves are introduced, is amazing. Collagen and elastin, the framework for our skin’s integrity and vitality, are both stimulated and start to replicate more readily. This increased production of collagen and elastin help to repair damages caused by UV light and other injuries.
On a cellular level, what’s happening is this…
Collagen synthesis is stimulated, and fibroblasts become more prolific (another important building block in the skin). Red light also helps to reduce inflammation, which is a common occurrence in the skin for a handful of reasons. This reduction in inflammation and an increase in the production of important molecules allows for more vital energy sources to be produced in the skin.
How Does Red Light Therapy Benefit my Skin Health?
Our skin is quite literally our body armor. This large organ is so incredibly important to our overall health, which includes our confidence levels and state of mental health. Red light therapy can help to reduce signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines that may have been influenced by harmful UV rays over the years. Reversing years of sun damage and turning back the clock on the appearance of your skin will give you a confidence boost as nothing else can.
Studies have shown promising results when red light therapy is used to treat skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, hyperpigmentation, vitiligo. All of which are incredibly common skin conditions that can have a significant impact on a person’s physical and mental state of health. Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment with little to no side effects, that has the ability to turn back your skin’s clock by promoting healing and overall vitality.
What Science is Telling Us
“In theory, red light could help to reverse some of the signs related to photoaging in the skin, says Dr. Buzney. In addition, some studies show that red light may help to restore hair for those with androgenetic alopecia, or male- and female-pattern hair loss, she says.” Source: https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/led-lights-are-they-a-cure-for-your-skin-woes
“The photons are absorbed by mitochondrial chromophores in skin cells. Consequently, electron transport, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) nitric oxide release, blood flow, reactive oxygen species increase, and diverse signaling pathways get activated. Stem cells can be activated allowing increased tissue repair and healing.” Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4126803/
“The proposed underlying mechanisms include the photostimulation of terminal molecules in the electron transport chain and the subsequent adenosine triphosphate (ATP) concentration increase, along with the selective light-driven activation of water molecules,19 thereby enhancing metabolic exchange and influencing the ion transporter systems found in cellular membranes.” Source: https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.1089/pho.2013.3616
