Positive Effects of Blue Light on Health

Skin is very responsive to blue light waves, leading to many positive benefits through its use. Our skin can suffer from overexposure to certain bacteria as well as overexposure to sunlight. Skin damage caused by acne and UV rays over time can be remediated through exposure to blue light. Some research is even telling us that blue light can be used as a preventative measure against skin cancer, as well as to treat existing skin cancer lesions. Blue light waves have shorter wavelengths than red light and are able to penetrate into the pores of the skin.

The anti-bacterial properties of blue light are especially beneficial recently, as we try and dial back our use of antibiotics. Acne and other infections are caused by harmful bacteria, but with blue light, these infections can be treated or prevented without the use of unnecessary medications.

Similar to red light waves, Blue light can also have a positive impact on moods and a person’s ability to sleep well through the night. Studies have found that blue light can help alleviate symptoms of depression and insomnia. Seasonal affective disorder and insomnia can be incredibly debilitating, but studies have found that blue light can help a person better cope with these disorders.
